(Domestic Abuse is NOT Acceptable)
For Victims of Sexual Assault
You are not alone! You may be feeling depressed, angry, sad, isolated, frustrated, or anxious. All of these feelings are normal. Below, we will discuss some things you can do.
If the assault has just occured:
Do NOT take a shower until you have been examined by a health professional. If you go to the Emergency Room, be explicit that you are there because you were raped. You can request a Rape Kit, which is a procedure exclusively for collecting evidence to later be used in court. The procedure can be intimidating, stressful, and uncomfortable. You have the right to ask for a Sexual Assault Advocate to be present during the exam. This advocate is there to provide support and information during the medical process as well as during the court & healing processes. We also suggest counseling to all victims of sexual assault.
If you are a survivor:
If you are a survivor of a past sexual assault, remember-you are strong, you have survived. We encourage you to seek counseling, sexual assault survivor support groups, or any other safe avenue for you to talk openly and honestly. For more information on our services, please call our crisis line.
